9/26/11 - After thirty three years, several leagues, and thousands of goals, indoor soccer will now have a place to immortalize its very best players, coaches and contributors.
The Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame and its blue ribbon selection committee was announced today from its home at www.indoorsoccerhall.com.
The initial selection committee includes 21 members from a variety of backgrounds. Among the group are media/historians, current and former coaches, team administrators and players. The committee includes representatives from the Major Indoor Soccer League and Professional Arena Soccer League, but is not directly affiliated with any one organization.
"I have been involved with the sport for 29 years as a fan, player, writer, promoter, team office employee, league office employee and league co-owner," said founder Sydney Nusinov, currently the Director of Operations for the PASL. "It is important to me to embrace our common history and celebrate it in an all-inclusive way. The Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame belongs to all of us."
Members of the selection committee include US Soccer Hall of Famers Ron Newman and Al Miller, legendary Baltimore Blast Head Coach Kenny Cooper, longtime Dallas Sidekicks Head Coach and former World Indoor Soccer League Commissioner Gordon Jago, and current MISL coaches Keith Tozer and Kim Roentved.
The initial classes of inductees will focus on the era from 1978 to 1992 when the original MISL and NASL Indoor dominated the indoor scene. To be considered, players must have played at least six seasons through 1991-92. Also on the ballot are coaches, builders, and administrators who made an indelible impact on the sport.
Inductees will be announced on Tuesday October 4 prior to the start of the MISL and PASL seasons and teams from both leagues will have the ability to honor their alumni on designated Hall of Fame Nights throughout the season.
