
March 26, 2011--The Milwaukee Wave defeated the Baltimore Blast 16-7 in front of a 10,274 crowd in the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore Friday night to give the Wave their fifth MISL championship.
The Wave scored the first points of the game with less than a minute in the first-quarter by a unassisted Jonathan Greenfield two-point goal. Milwaukee's Ian Bennett ended the first-quarter with a two-point goal assisted by Marco Terminesi, which improved Terminesi's point-streak to 32 games.
The Blast's Lucio Gonzaga netted a two-point goal to cut the Wave's lead to 4-2 in the second-quarter. Baltimore tied the game 4-4 with a Mike Lookingland goal, but a unassisted three-point goal by Giuliano Oliviero gave the Wave a 7-4 lead into halftime.
Wave forward Marcio Leite netted the lone goal in the third-quarter to extend Milwaukee's lead to 10-4 going into the final quarter.
Veteran goal-scorer, Greg Howes increased the Wave's lead with a two-point goal with just over three and a half minutes into the fourth-quarter. Wave's Travis MacKenzie netted a two-point goal, but the Blast wouldn't give up and scored a three-point extra attacker goal by Pat Morris. Evan McNeley ended all hope for the Blast by netting a two-point goal with just under two and a half minutes left in the contest.
The Wave's high powered offense was assisted by a stifling Wave defense. Goalkeeper Marcel Feenstra earned most valuable player honors with is 11 saves and only give up seven point by a Baltimore team that averaged 13.8 points in the regular season. Milwaukee's defense made 18 blocks to Baltimore's two blocks.
