MISL Passes 1-Point Scoring System

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) is re-instating the single goal scoring system, effective for the upcoming 2003-2004 Season. Following passage by the League Management Committee, the official decision was approved at the league meetings held May 15 and 16 in Baltimore, MD.

“The Major Indoor Soccer League is constantly evaluating its’ position in many areas of improving the game of indoor soccer. The multi-point system was not traditional in worldwide soccer, therefore, the MISL opted to rejoin the mainstream and go back to the single goal scoring system,” commented Commissioner Ryan.

The multi-point scoring system, including 1, 2, and 3-point goals, had been in place since 1988 with the American Indoor Soccer Association, a precursor to the National Professional Soccer League and the current MISL.

The original MISL (1978-92), Continental Indoor Soccer League (1993-97) and the World Indoor Soccer League (1998-2001) all used the 1-point scoring system, exclusively.

MISL Director of Soccer Operations and former MISL player David Grimaldi said, “History and tradition has prevailed, the game is all important.”
