Milwaukee to Host 2006 MISL All-Star Weekend
MISL All-Stars vs. the Mexican
National Team
Major
Indoor Soccer League Commissioner Steve Ryan announced that Milwaukee
has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2006 MISL All-Star Game
to be held Saturday, February 11, 2006 at U.S. Cellular Arena. For
the first time in its five-year history, the MISL’s signature event
will feature MISL All-Stars competing against the Mexican Federation’s
National Futbol Rapido team.
“The
MISL is very excited to partner with Mexico’s premier futbol team
for this special All-Star celebration,” Commissioner Ryan said.
“Milwaukee is the perfect setting for this event because of its
longstanding dedication to the game. During the 2002-03 season,
the Wave and the City of Milwaukee did a marvelous job with the
All-Star Weekend and with this year’s emphasis on Milwaukee’s great
Hispanic community, we’re confident that this All-Star Game will
be even better than the previous one.”
The
2006 MISL All-Star Game will be the League’s fourth all-star game
in five seasons. The Game showcases its talented superstars and
pays tribute to the international game of soccer. Each All-Star
celebration is highly anticipated by the MISL’s international audience.
“This
is extremely exciting for us to have an opportunity to bring a collection
of our great players to Milwaukee,” said Lic. Alfredo Maccise Saade,
President of the Federación Nacional de Futbol Rápido, A.C. “This
event will help strengthen our relationship with the MISL and the
Milwaukee Wave, and we hope to build on this partnership in the
future.”
“Milwaukee
is a wonderful and deserving city of this honor,” Milwaukee Mayor
Tom Barrett said. “The Wave has been a fixture in Wisconsin for
more than 20 years and we’re thrilled to share this cultural experience
with our community and the rest of the soccer world.”
In
addition to the All-Star Game on Saturday, the Milwaukee Wave will
host a special All-Star dinner on Friday, February 10, with all
proceeds from the dinner and a special auction to be donated to
the Wave of Kindness program. Funds raised will be used for game
tickets and scholarships to directly benefit the Hispanic Community.
“The
Milwaukee Wave organization is proud to host this great event with
the help of the city and its prominent Hispanic Community,” said
Wave COO Mike Lafferty. “We are proud to recognize Time Warner Cable
as a 2005 Presenting sponsor of the MISL All-Star Game. This is
a great partnership, not only for the game of soccer, but for the
greater Milwaukee community. Most of all, I’d like to recognize
the efforts of Maria Monreal-Cameron, who was an instrumental figure
in pulling this together, as well as Amador Bustas of La Gran D
radio and Jesus Valdivia from Interclubes.”
