NY Hampton Surf Opens Saturday
(Cleveland, OH-December 6, 2006) The American Indoor Soccer League’s newest franchise, the New York Hampton Surf will kick off the home portion of its inaugural season this Saturday night at 7:30PM when they take on the Massachusetts Twisters at the Southampton Town Recreation Center.
The Surf, led by coach Fernando Gomes, dropped a 12-7 decision to the Rockford Thunder in its opening game last Saturday night in Loves Park, IL. The Thunder jumped out to a 7-2 lead midway through the third quarter before the Surf began their comeback.
According to Surf general manager Andreas Lindberg, who suited up for the Surf and tallied a goal and added an assist, said that once the Surf, which had only a handful of practices before departing for Rockford, got used to the field and the boards, and they adapted quickly to the style of play.
Saturday night’s game will be the first professional indoor soccer game played on Long Island in almost twenty years. That game was played on February 1, 1987, when the New York Express of the Major Indoor Soccer League lost 9-2 to the Minnesota Strikers at the Nassau Coliseum.
Tickets prices for Saturday night’s game, as well as all other Surf games this season are: $20.00 for adults, $15.00 for seniors, and $10.00 for students. Children under five years old are free. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.cornerkick.com/hamptonsurf.html or at the Recreation Center the night of the game.
