Excite Calm Twisters, Win Regular Season Title
Cleveland, OH, March 12, 2006 – The Matt Brienes'
four goal performance led the Cincinnati Excite to an 11-2 pounding
of the Massachusetts Twisters tonight in front of a crowd of 623
at the Eastern States Coliseum in the final game of the 2005-06
American Indoor Soccer League season.
The
Excite took the 2005-06 AISL regular season championship with a
6-1 record, tying the league record for most wins in a season, set
last year by the Detroit/Windsor Border Stars.
The
Excite, who were without scoring stars Tiest Sondaal, Marcel Matis,
and John Cipriani, managed to stymie the Twisters, who had definite
chances, could not convert any until late in the fourth quarter,
when Kevin Krause put the Twisters on the board with a two point,
victimizing Excite backup 'keeper John Adams, who replaced starter
Jay Schneider midway through the fourth quarter.
"They
had a bit more energy then the did the last time we played them,"
said Twisters player/coach Joe Calabrese. "They had a couple
of their guys back up top, and we struggled with that. Their target
players were effective all night."
Kurt
Fischer scored twice for the Excite, and David Satterwhite, Rick
Wood, and John Motsinder each added a goal.
Jay
Schneider earned the win in goal for the Excite, and Rich Freeze
took the loss.
