 USIndoor
To Form Soccer Rules Commission
STANLEY, Kansas
(April 1, 2000) - The United States Indoor Soccer Association today announced
the appointment of Andy Barney as the Chairman
of a Special Commission for the development of standard rules of the game for
youth and amateur competition. Effective immediately, USIndoor will be accepting
nominations of candidates for the Commission, which will finalize its composition
by the end of the month. President of
the National Indoor Championships
(the world's most prestigious indoor soccer tournament, with well over 2,000
teams competing annually in 61 separate age divisions) and a member of USIndoor's
Advisory Board of Directors, Andy Barney stated, "I am honored to be asked to
serve the game in this manner." Despite the prevalence of indoor soccer across
the nation, there is surprisingly no established rules of the game. "USIndoor
should be praised," Barney continued, "for leading the initiative toward adopting
acceptable standards that will help to build the game's identity." Once completed,
the rules will serve as a guide for facility operators in all youth and adult
play, just as USIndoor's "The Official Rules of Indoor Soccer" is intended for
professional play. In filling
the five positions available, USIndoor will look at several factors: 1. The candidate's
experience with a given set of rules and age groups (e.g., whether based on
WISL, NPSL, or other point system);
2. The popularity of the rules that the candidate represents;
3. The candidate's support base; and
4. A brief written statement demonstrating the foregoing, including the candidate's
dedication toward the task at hand. Those wishing
to submit a nomination or to serve on the Commission should notify USIndoor
promptly by e-mail at RULES@usindoor.com
and address the factors described above. USIndoor facility members, having formerly
completed a survey containing the foregoing information, need not resubmit their
nominations. The United
States Indoor Soccer Association is dedicated to promoting the interests of
indoor soccer.
